Yukari Mellish
Playing Around the World & Japanese Family Group
Yukari noticed her son was thriving in an English-speaking world, but missing his own language and culture. Nearly two years ago she began volunteering with our Playing Around the World playgroup on the Central Coast, then went further and founded our Japanese Family Group. "It's important that children learn their culture and language from an early age," she says. Yukari, thank you for giving our children roots and wings at the same time.

Armidale Homework Centre
Eight years ago, Patricia walked into our Armidale Homework Centre and sat down beside a child learning English. She has been coming back ever since. A teacher by profession, she knows the children's names, their stories, and the language they speak at home — and when a child can't make it to the centre, she sometimes visits them at home so the learning doesn't stop. Patricia, thank you for eight years of showing up and believing this centre matters. Feel like joining her? Our Homework and Learning Centre in Armidale is always looking for volunteers who want to walk alongside our kids as they find their feet in English.

Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme
For five years, Liliana has volunteered with our Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme, sitting with older people across our region who live alone, in residential care, or far from the people who once filled their homes. What fills her heart is the time itself — hearing the stories, watching a face light up, the moment someone realises they are still needed. Mosaic matches volunteers with older people in their own language and culture wherever it can, so no one is left behind an invisible wall of language. Could you be the one hour, every two weeks, that changes someone's world?

Jesmond Public School Homework & Learning Centre
For the past year, Kerrie has volunteered as an English Literacy and Conversation Tutor with our Homework and Learning Centre at Jesmond Public School in Newcastle, helping children from multicultural families build confidence with reading and words that are still finding their shape. What keeps her coming back is watching them grow — the child who couldn't quite get the sentence out in Term 1, reading it confidently by Term 3. Kerrie, thank you for helping our Newcastle kids find their voice, one afternoon at a time. Applications for the Homework & Learning Centre Tutor are now open — we'd love to hear from you.

Playing Around the World, Central Coast
The mums and children at our Playing Around the World playgroup on the Central Coast know her as Libby. She's 70, and for seven years she has caught the bus from her home to volunteer with us, week after week, never letting not driving stop her from showing up. Libby has helped welcome new mothers, settle nervous toddlers, set out morning tea, and make our groups feel like a place people want to come back to. Thank you for the seven years, and counting. Feel like joining Libby? Whether it's a couple of hours a week or a hand at a one-off event, we'd love to meet you.
